IF I WAS

If I wouldn't talk to you, would you see me?
If I tried to hide, would you find me?
If I was smaller than life, would you approach me?
If I did not have, would you give me?

I am somebody's back, walking away
when the sun shines on your eyes
I am the moon, hiding behind the mountain
The wind, blowing away.
I am a pebble in the water
that feels the surface above and says:
I have no eyes to see
I have no hands to swim
I have no thoughts to share

I am standing still
waiting for the wind to blow
the sand to shift
the storm to bubble
to move closer to you-
you that knows me not
and hears not my thoughts

I yearn for your touch
and your warm embrace
I have long suffered
loneliness and pain

and now that I am ready
to give and to get
you focus on the bright light
upon your eyes, beautiful
but blinding.

What if you would lean
and pick me up and
and touch your face
like the wettest kiss

and then just throw me
throw me away
back in the water
that feels like a bliss.

I make no sound
I hear no noise-
my world is small
and smaller it gets

and eternity flows
as the water flows
Eternity slows
but never rests.
